Exposure Artist Program Awards

TRANSFORMATIVE JUSTICE AWARD

In February of 2022, the Exposure Artists Program, a new arts funding initiative at The Pittsburgh Foundation, announced its first round of grants, which total $215,000. The 12 awards include support for individual artists and collectives, transformative justice grants for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) artists working at the intersection of art and activism, and to artists who have never received any foundation funding before.

Ascension of the #notwhitecollective
The #notwhitecollective — a group of 13 women artists who identify as bi/multi-racial/cultural, immigrant or descendants of immigrants founded in 2016 — reopened Space gallery this summer with a powerful show called “We Are the Global Majority.” Next up? They’re spearheading a monthly series with City of Asylum; “In-Dialogue” invites artists of color to talk about their experience during the coronavirus pandemic. — LD

VOICES: PITTSBURGHERS ON RACISM AND RESILIENCE

WITH #NOTWHITE COLLECTIVE ARTIST ZENA RUIZ

Racism, police brutality, disparities in education, careers, health care, economic opportunity, business and housing - are just some of the issues that have long plagued Pittsburgh's African American and other marginalized communities. It's important to know who's already working for change. But how can others get involved? Whose positive efforts are going unnoticed? WQED's new video documentary series hopes to create dialogue by sharing the thoughtful voices of a diverse group – different backgrounds, different ideas, different goals - all working towards equity.
